What is the purpose of a blog?

I don't really see what the purpose of a blog is (for us) really, how is/could this be any more differenter than just really long emails? ...at least on email everything is there together in one cute little package, and i don't have to click on a bunch of other stuff. i see the point of david having a blog though, because he uses it to communicate with a lot of different people (like family), and because he's ass far away, so he can chronicle his adventures for us, and eventually illustrate them and publish them for millions and millions (yes, i am expecting part of the profit from that, as it was my genius idea). Or for people like some political guy or human rights activist in india or some famous person, like scooby doo or bambi... someone argue with me.

this blog can provide a forum-style community feel that an email can't and i think it actually more convenient to have all this fun stuff and communication between friends on one neato site. It's like being at a party whereas emails are like dark secret messages passed under bathroom stall partitions. don't be a hater. House of monk membership isn't a right, it's a privilege.

j.... quite simply you are WRONG!!! a blog makes perfect sense. especially when it is a blog that doesn't require a lot of work on your part. now i didn't want to say this before because i know how anti you are but in effect we are creating our own little facebook-esque community. try it before you buy it.... money back guaranty dildovid promises

but i'm lazy.
i don't want to click on all these little tabs and links just to read your (ok, witty) responses to my comments. i LIKE having everything in one place, not several. and i think that if i'm THIS lazy, and i AM using this blog currently - i KNOW that i'm never going to see LUKE at this party.

Yeah but if chris ONLY posts updates on london on this blog than luke will be FORCED to join under penalty of being uninformed. bwahha!

but see, if you want facebook, go use facebook. that's why i don't have an account there. or myspace. or crack who oars.com. i still don't understand what you're talking about - what i want to know is: 1) what is the difference between email and a blog (for OUR purposes) and 2) why is it better/more desirable to use? so far i've heard 1) i'm wrong 2) it's like facebook, which is like a forum 3) it doesn't require much work (but, i would argue, this is the same as email) 4)it is not located under a bathroom stall and 5) i can get my money back if i register for use, or if i've already paid (is this one of those scams - like i have to pay a bunch of money to REALLY understand the full glory of this thing?!)

My 2 cents:

I like the blog because I am privy to information I wasn't before, not normally being included on you alls emails

Blogs allow lurking, which emails do not. Good for lazy but nosy people.

Blogs allow pictures and photographs to be displayed in a friendlier format - no clicking on stupid attachments or downloading jpegs

Jonathan I'm with you- I hate face book etc., but I think this is a little different and lot cooler. And more "organic." :)

mina - finally a 'real' answer. thank you. i appreciate a mind that functions on comparisons based on facts etc rather than opinion and generalization - "we are at some big war with some country (countries?) because we all support our flag and terror is bad and freedom needs to be defended. america is the bestest of all."

(maybe chris?) - so i'm using igoogle to feed or whatever, and it shows when there is a new post or email message, but doesn't show when people respond... help?

christopher dukehart said...

i haven't used igoogle but i've got to imagine that its in the options there somewhere dude. that or you might have to change your user options on your google account. let us know when you figure it out... or just make a post that explains how to do it =)

wow that was awesome jonathan. who exactly are you quoting? I'm probably reading your comment incorrectly if I infer that the quote is attributed to Chris? Haha, j/k chris.
